John Mearsheimer | Russia’s Existential War & the Rise of a Post-Western World | Oct. 17, 2026

Labels , , , , , Source: Glenn Diesen youtube

Description:
John Mearsheimer tells Glenn Diesen that the end-of-history moment failed once unipolarity gave way to a multipolar order of the United States, China, and Russia, and that a liberal international order cannot hold when two of the three great powers are not liberal democracies. He says Europe's nightmare is poisoned relations with Russia after an ugly Russian victory in Ukraine, and the chance that the American pacifier leaves Europe for East Asia.

Mearsheimer argues Russia treats the war as an existential threat and will not lose, and that Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil push Moscow to wreck Ukraine as a functioning state. He ties Trump's diesel deal and pressure on Zelensky to the Iran war and the world economy, and he expects Trump to back off cutting intelligence and Starlink. He also says the Houthis are hitting Saudi oil routes, including Yanbu, that another short bombing campaign will not do what a 40-day campaign failed to do, and that wars are much easier to start than to end.

Ukraine just launched its biggest drone strike of the entire conflict, up to 2,000 drones aimed at Moscow on Russia's election day, and the results were paltry. In this episode we break down Ukraine's failing Lyman offensive, the encirclements in Orikhiv and Dobropillia, Zelensky's cosmic budget deficit, and why Europe now wants Donald Trump to escalate. Dr. John Mearsheimer & Prof. Seyed Mohammad Marandi | Iran After Ayatollah Khamenei: The MOU, Lebanon, and the Road Ahead with Mehlaqa Samdani & Dr. Atiqa Batul | July 6, 2026

Labels , , , , , , , , , , Source: Community Alliance 4 Peace and Justice youtube

Description:
As Ayatollah Khamenei's state funeral draws millions of Iranians and nearly 50 foreign delegations to Iran this week, we ask: what does this moment mean for Iran's internal stability, its standing in the region, and its fragile truce with Washington?

Since the June 17th Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding brought a fragile end to the U.S.-Israel war on Iran, the agreement has faced serious strain. The June 26th Israel-Lebanon framework ties Israeli withdrawal to Hezbollah's disarmament, and low-level attacks between Iran, the U.S., and Israel continue. Is the Trump administration genuinely pursuing a grand bargain with Tehran, or is this just a tactical pause before renewed conflict?

In this episode (recorded July 6, 2026), Mehlaqa Samdani and Dr. Atiqa Batul are joined by:
🔹 Dr. John Mearsheimer — Professor of Political Science, University of Chicago — on the fragility of the MOU, the Strait of Hormuz, whether Iran is emerging as a fourth pole of global power, and what America's foreign policy history teaches about dealing with Iran.
🔹 Prof. Seyed Mohammad Marandi — Professor of English Literature and Orientalism, University of Tehran — on Khamenei's succession, Tehran's read on the MOU's survival, the Saudi-Turkey-Pakistan-Egypt regional recalibration, Iran's information war, and the lessons of Iran's development under decades of sanctions.
