The nearby animals are said to react to these encounters. Often they appear as a someone walking with a flashlight up the trails or mountains, but covering unnatural distances or jumping across the lake and river as if it teleported there. I actually filmed this exact same phenomenon my first night in Hessdalen and I still have no explanation for it.
After witnessing this flashlight pattern myself we also met a local in the countryside who told us a very similar encounter that he witnessed almost twenty years prior, and described it the same way.
