Recruitment was extremely strict: candidates needed approval from a high-level “committee of five” (senior General Staff officers + KGB) and final sign-off from Major General Aryov (head of the KGB Military Technical College), who also acted as the unit’s curator. 

Even decades later, former members of this unit are still reluctant to speak about their work.

Video presented here captures a genuine unidentified aerial phenomenon (UAP) hovering over the Sea of Marmara, recorded from Kumburgaz, Turkey. The sighting is supported by a substantial backstory, credible sources, and multiple witnesses. In contrast to typical YouTube videos, this is not merely a random clip; it possesses provenance, thorough analysis, extensive research, and has undergone 16 years of examination without resolution. It continues to be an unsolved case.

Several local residents describe observing disc and oval shaped aerial objects with a metallic appearance that maneuvered silently while sometimes accompanied by strange red and orange lights. Some of the witnesses lived in the nearby housing complex while others were curious onlookers and fishermen. In 2009, after a UFO conference held near Istanbul, Roger Leir and 7 to 8 other people became witnesses themselves and observed a strange disc shaped object hovering in the sky under a bright moon. Roger Leir personally witnessed Yalcin taking video of the anomalous object in the sky and was interviewed multiple times before he passed away.

Numerous analyses have been performed, including evaluations by a team of scientists from the Turkish government.

The initial release of the videos was made to the SIRIUS UFO group, under the leadership of researcher Haktan Akdoğan, which subsequently attracted significant international media coverage. Various organizations, including Turkey's National Council for the Study of Science and Technology, scrutinized the footage. None of these investigations uncovered any evidence of fabrication or manipulation, resulting in the classification of the phenomena as unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).

Despite thorough investigations, the Kumburgaz sightings remain unresolved, continuing to captivate both scholars and the general public.
