- The US seeks to maintain instability in the region to reduce energy exports to both China and the rest of Asia, increase Asia's dependence on the US for energy, as well as continue weakening and undermining Iran itself;
- Because the US cannot maintain high-intensity protracted warfare in the region, it is using "negotiations," "peace talks," and its proxies to maintain a slow burn instead;
