Paul Stonehill describes a carved stone slab found in 1998 in Hubei, made by the Chengbeixi culture about 7,000 years ago, before the Yangshao culture. The slab, kept at the Hubei Provincial Museum, shows a stylized face with rays and is presented as early evidence of a sun cult in Neolithic China.
